Let's Book Clients.
Episode 113:
Do you ever lose your creativity?
I definitely do, in fact, I’m feeling like that now and have been feeling like it for a hot minute.
That’s actually the reason why I chose this topic for the podcast today.
I love quotes, and I always love Maya Angelou quotes, and this time is no different. Here it is:
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou
1. This leads me to our first point. Creating feeds creativity. Just get going.
Do one social media post. Then do another. When I can’t get those creative juices flowing, or even when I’m good, I always take to Ivory Mix.
It is about a million templates and stock images that not only jazz up my creativity, but also make me lightening fast.
Speaking of lightening fast and just getting going, I always set my handy dandy timer to 10 minutes and play beat the clock.
There’s something about just starting, and making a game or competition out of it, if only against my own self or clock, that really is so effective.
2. Write a to do list and cross things off. I think I’m feeling not creative because I have several loose ends and don’t know where to start so I don’t want to do any of it. A to do list gives us major direction and motivation.
Often in making this list I find out that there’s something on that list that I’d kind of rather not do, so in procrasting that one thing, I just think my creativity is stumped, but actually all I need to do is that one thing to break through it.
It’s kind of magical actually.
3. Take a break. We talked about this last week in the mastermind, we all need a break, whether it’s a 10 minute walk or a two week or hey even a two month vacation.
I absolutely love being in a place in my business where I can take as much mental time as I need.
It wasn’t always that way.
For many many years, decades really, I didn’t even feel like I could go for that 10 minute walk.
For the record, I was wrong, there’s always space for it, so take it.
I’m so grateful now that we know that a mental break is actually a necessary thing, and actually makes us more creative and productive.
I could keep going on and on with more ideas, I brainstormed at least 10 of them in only a few minutes, but for now, let’s wrap.
We’re a very action oriented bunch around here, so let’s do this!
Here’s your hot tip, when you’re feeling like you’re not your creative best self, choose one of these methods and get unstuck.
Know that I’m right here with you along the way.
Want to know what I’m going to start with?
Today I’m doing the “to-do” list trick, and I’m going meta with it and putting using templates and a timer to it, and scheduling in stopping early today to spend some time with my sweet grown daughter.
Let’s be real, I’ll jump at any time to hang out with her, no matter what my to-do list looks like, so I’ll get through as much as I can of it.
