The Wedding Pro Show

Episode 75: Is Work/Life Balance Even Possible?

What are you juggling right now? Kids, marriage, school church, friends, other family members, a regular J-O-B job, your wedding business, all of it, more than that, and that’s not even mentioning taking care of yourself!

The purest form of the word balance, is an even distribution of weight enabling someone of something to remain uprights and steady. As in “she lost her balance before falling”.

Ironic, right? Doesn’t trying to keep everything balanced make you feel like you’re just a step away from falling?

Balance is also defined as a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. As in “try to keep a balance between work and relaxation”, or in this instance, between work and life.

Hearing the term balance, often invokes a stressful feeling, because of both of these definitions of it.

The root of the stressful feeling is often from guilt… so let’s unpack this definition of guilt that I found real quick, that will help us clear it up a little.

This definition is a feeling of having done wrong or failed in an obligation. Often as a result of doing something else instead.

This. This is why talking about work life balance brings up so much stress, because we feel guilty if we don’t keep all of the balls in the air at the same time. If something has to give to keep something else running.

We have so many deadlines just in life, and here in the best industry in the world, we have extremely pressing deadlines.

Someone’s wedding and having all of the details in our part of it covered is very pressing.

By this time, I know you’re thinking, yep I’m clear on all of that, you’re describing my life. What can I DO about it????

1. Manage expectations.

2. Learn to say no, or at least not quite. Be really mindful of everything you’re asked to do.

3. If you’re working full time, and your wedding business has become full time, step back and think about if you can cut back your hours at your full time job.

I have several members in my membership who have been able to stop working their full time job, and their wedding business has grown as a result of it, to the point that they’re now making more than they were doing both.

I also have members who have dropped their full time job down to part time, or even were doing a full time job, and a side hustle job, and building their wedding business, and were able to drop either the full time or the side hustle.

Take the time to analyze if you gave up one of these types of J-O-Bs, would that help the business that you’re growing and love, grow even more and produce more profit.

Reach out and talk to me if this feels scary and I’ll walk you through it. Trust me, I’ve been there, I get it.

My husband and I both were in our businesses full time, then last year we were both able to retire from our wedding businesses and do what we love now, at only 49 years old for him and 46 years old for me. It can be done and it doesn’t even have to be hard!

Make an appointment with yourself and really visit this, you might be surprised and it could really change your life.

Just saying no or not everything to one thing to make room in your calendar for this important appointment.

As always, I have a hot tip for you.

Unplug.

I know, we talk about social media here a lot, and marketing, and DMs, and email, and communicating, and all the things.

That doesn’t mean you’re doing them 24/7.

Have a window of time in your day that you don’t do these things.

Or have a window of time in your day that you do.

Scheduling or having an efficiency plan in place really helps unplug.

Keep it balanced, and try your best to let go of that stress and guilt.

Thank you as always for being here!
