The Wedding Pro Show
Episode 68: Keep It Nice
Pride in ownership, do you have it for your business?
Let’s do a quick definition.
Pride: a feeling of deep satisfaction derived from one's own achievements or the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated
OR… to be especially proud of (as in a particular quality or skill)
You can see how this applies to our weddings and events businesses and the skills that go along with our specialties.
My best friend Holley, she was here with us on episode 39, is one of my dearest and oldest friends.
Her parents were like my parents, my parents were like her parents.
It seems like we do everything the same. Even things completely out of our control, like her mom passed away exactly 10 years before my dad, to the very day.
Her mom always used to tell us to “keep it nice”. To have pride in ownership. When Holley bought her first house, her mom’s mantra to her was “keep it nice”.
She even wrote it on a slip of paper that Holley keeps attached to her fridge with a magnet.
How does this apply to your wedding business?
Pride in ownership. Keep it nice.
When you’re proud of what you have, what you own, where you work, and the skills you possess, it shows, and it’s contagious!
When you’re proud of it, guess who else is proud to be a part of it? You clients!
When your clients are proud of who they choose to be a part of their very best day, and it’s because you show pride in it. It shows big time.
That leads to referrals. Your couple is so proud to use you that they tell everyone they love about you.
Their pride shows, and now their referrals are proud to book you for their wedding, and what do they do? They also refer to you. See how powerful this is?
Now let’s take it even farther. When you’re proud of your business, there’s someone else who sees this pride, your fellow wedding vendors.
Now they’re proud to work with you, proud to be associated with you, and proud to refer their clients and others who ask about your type of service, to YOU!
Think about the flip side. If you’re not proud, the opposite of that is embarrassed. If you’re embarrassed of your business, or your skills, is that someone your fellow vendors would be excited to work with or refer to?
Or even think back to that couple who was proud to work with you because you have pride in ownership.
If you would have been embarrassed of your business or skills, would they have wanted to work with you? Do they want to be embarrassed of the services you provide on their big day? Or embarrassed to refer to you?
See the power in pride of ownership?
Having pride in ownership even allows you to do price increases confidently.
How would your life change if you increased the rates of each event, even if just a little at a time?
Here’s your hot tip:
Practice the mindset of being proud of your business and your skills.
How can you do that?
Stand a little taller, physically. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes a day, just practice it.
Practice this affirmation: I am successful. My business deserves for me to be proud of it.
Keep improving your business and maintaining it in a way that literally does keep you proud of owning it.
You know, "keep it nice".
Thank you as always for being here.
