Episode 66: The Back to School Juggle

Does juggling work/home balance give you anxiety? Especially when the back to school schedule starts back up?

Here are 3 tricks to help you get through it as smoothly as possible.

1. Do the work for your future self. What would she be glad that it’s done? Do that for her now. Is it packing lunches the night before, or better yet, on Sunday afternoon for the whole week?

Is it planning outfits and having them organized by the day so no one has to think about it in those crazy mornings (including your own)?

Maybe it’s even having your favorite coffee cup set up by the coffee and ready for you. I love doing this one.

It’s often the smallest things you can do ahead, to make the mornings easier, so everyone can have the best start to their day.

2. When you finish your day, take a few minutes to prep for the first thing on your list for the next day.

Back to your future self, when the chaos of the morning is over, and you sit down to work on your own list, if it’s just a little bit started already, you have built in momentum.

When you’re wrapping up your day, make a list of a few things you want to accomplish the next day.

Try to do the first thing on the list, or at least start it, then don’t cross it off.

The next day, you can start your day but crossing something off your to do list that’s already done!

I know I love crossing things off my list, and crossing something off early really gives me a spring board for the rest of the day.

Now I do have a disclaimer here…. Don’t just write things down so you can cross them off, and so you can cross things off that are “fluff” to help you procrastinate the things you don’t want to do. That’s not what we’re talking about. Lol

Here’s how I manage my to do list… 3 goals for the year, 3 goals each month to get me closer to to the yearly goal, 3 goals each week to get me closer to the monthly goal, and, you guessed it, 3 goals each day to get me closer to the weekly goals.

This is a method that I learned from Michael Hyatt, and it is super effective, give it a try!

3. Get up a little earlier, and offset it by going to bed a little earlier.

I’m super guilty of just wasting at least 30 minutes before I actually go to bed, or even to sleep. If I would just go ahead and go to sleep, then get up another 30 minutes earlier, it would be even more helpful to my day.

If your morning is busy with kids trying to get to school, that 30 minutes could be your quiet time that really gets you grounded and helps make you a little more cheerful when the crazy starts up.
