The Wedding Pro Show

Episode 61: Hacked

Imagine you pick up your phone and go to FB.

It says you need to log in.

Okay, you log in. Now your password doesn’t work, but that’s fine, you have several you use, it must be a different one.

Now those aren’t working, so you request a new one.

FB asks if you would like them to send it (or the auth code) to your phone number or your email address, and they provide both.

Your email address is somethingsomething@gmail.com, this address is somethingelse@hotmail.com.

This is your first red flag, so you have them send the code to your phone. You get it, and enter it, and FB says it’s not a match.

The more things you try, the more they don’t work, the more concerned you get.

This is what’s going on with my husband Joe’s account right now.

We have realized now that he was hacked, and either the hacker deleted his account, or FB knows it was hacked and has disabled it, but it’s like his account never existed.

Supposedly you can hire a hacker to re-hack it, but how do you even trust that?!?!

And PS there’s no hotline for contacting FB for this sort of thing.

So at this point he has lost everything there. His contacts, his messenger, his favorite groups and pages to follow, the memories that pop up, all of it.

It stinks, and the thought of it does make me a little sick, I have to admit.

I was planning to have him on here to help you feel the emotion behind it, but he’s busy and hard to catch right now, if I can get him to record something I’ll add it to the end of this episode.

I’m just feeling super urgent to get it out to you so you can prevent it happening to you.

First of all, I want to read you what Facebook says to do to prevent it. Make sure you do all of these things asap.

Now, imagine if you couldn’t access your business page or any groups you might have.

Please make sure you have another admin on your business page, so you don’t lose your page if you lose your account.

Like seriously, do it now.

Did you know that you can even set up a contact person if something tragic happens to you, so they can access your account? Do that too.

Hot tip: Facebook is someone else’s platform. So is IG, Pinterest, Tik Tok, Twitter, all of them.

You should always be growing your audience as an email list in addition to depending on social media.

Any of these social media platforms could be gone in a hot second, even by the time this episode airs.

My favorite email marketing service provider is Flodesk, and I have a 50% off coupon for you.

I’ll link it for you in the show notes, or you can always go

to bridepath.com/myfavorites for links to my favorite things, most of them do have discount codes for you, all of them are worth checking into.
