Here we are, right in the middle of engagement season, approaching the new year.
You're ready, aren't you!?
For some vendors, engagement season starts sooner, for some later.
Engagement season runs from Thanksgiving through Valentine's Day. The actual getting engaged. More engagements happen during this time than any other time of the year.
The weather is snuggly and romantic, family functions are anticipated so it's perfect for making big announcements, future fiancés are thinking about wanting to start the new year engaged, there's the fresh newness of New Year's Day, and of course the romance of Valentine's Day.
If you're a wedding pro who is one of the first ones booked, you may be already getting more inquiries. If you're typically booked later into the planning, it will start up a little later.
Did you know this is why most wedding shows are in the winter? Interesting, right?!?
Wherever you fall along the spectrum, it's time to start getting ready.
While 2020 may not have been (definitely wasn't) what we anticipated, if you're still standing, you're going to be so much stronger for it! The payoff will be very real.
1. The first thing you want to do, is start with a good mindset. You've got this!
If you're still here, you're already on your way to a successful 2021!
Look over your pricing structure, check on your social media, your website, your systems. Make sure you have every reason to be confident, and you DO!
Confidence is a major key in attracting clients. It makes you feel abundance and abundance attracts your ideal clients and fills your calendar.
I personally love starting each day with a positive routine to keep myself in a good mindset. I highly recommend it, it's a great habit. Even if you have to get up a little earlier than usual. A little me time in the morning is the best way to start your day.
I like to start by getting up early, getting dressed, then doing everything else. I have kicked the coffee habit, even though I love it, and start with a big glass of water. I do my devotion, then gratitude journal, then affirmations. After that, I get to work. I prioritize my 3 goals for the day that help me reach my 3 goals for the week, that work toward my 3 goals for the month, and my 3 goals for the year.
That feels like a lot... start by setting 3 goals for yourself for this year. Maybe one of those is simply to get up a little earlier than usual to take care of your mindset. We can work on the rest later!
2. If one of your goals is to grow your social media, doing a "brain dump" of your social media content ideas is a great way to get set up for success.
Set a timer for 15 minutes, and just write out all of your ideas. Then take those ideas and put it into your planner (this is the one I use, and love).
You'll thank yourself (and maybe even me!) later in the year when you're looking at that blank page.
3. Follow up with past clients.
You want referrals, they're so much better than chasing cold leads!
Send a quick email or even a card. Congratulate and thank them. Even implement a referral program if you feel so inclined. At least think about it.
4. Connect with another vendor in the same field as you.
Find another vendor in your field, one you really trust, and collaborate with them.
Imagine you're a photographer. A potential client contacts a fellow photographer. They're booked for the date the potential clients wants. If you have a relationship with them, and they have a heart to serve couples, just like you do, what are they going to do? Refer that potential couple to you!
It's also a great way to find a second shooter if you need one. If you're a planner or day-of coordinator, you could even help each other as part of each others teams. If you're a DJ or any other day-of type coordinator, you can help jump in if an emergency comes up.
It's just an over all great practice to start. Don't worry as much about competition, it's a waste of your energy and often borrowed worry. You do want to connect with someone you trust, both with the couple that you might end up referring to them too, but also with you and your business practices. It has to be a mutually beneficial relationship.
5. Keep Learning!
"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think." -Albert Einstein
"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." -Benjamin Franklin
You may already know this about me, I love quotes and definitions. The first one of these quotes is both so of course that makes me extra happy!
It's so true. Remember what we said about mindset? Learning is one of the best ways to get into a positive mindset. There's something so satisfying about it. It just creates success at its very nature.
I hope this really makes you feel ready to take on 2021, because you are amazing, and you can do it!
